During the days of Nazi Germany there arose a Confessing Church movement that rose against the German Church movement, which became the religious arm of the Fascist Nazi Socialist movement. Of the 18,000 pastors in Germany during that time (from 1933 to 1945), less than 5,000 were aligned with the Confessing Church. Hence, only a remnant held fast to the biblical position with about half of the churches conforming due to political and societal pressure. Unfortunately, this demonstrates that, when push comes to shove, a large percentage of pastors, churches and so-called Christians will probably bow to pressure and allow [More]
“You just never know what an act of kindness might lead to!”  Admin When a young Filipino girl received a Christmas gift-filled shoebox in 2000, she couldn’t have imagined that one day she would meet the 7-year-old boy from Idaho who packed the box in a small town 7000 miles away. And, she never dreamed that she would marry the American boy, now grown up, 14 years later. This month Joana and her new husband Tyrel Wolfe dropped off their own gift shoeboxes at Samaritan’s Purse headquarters in North Carolina, where Operation Christmas Child is run, and told their remarkable [More]

“In the West we have not experienced such persecution as many others have but that will eventually change therefore it would be wise to learn how others are coping under such circumstances so we will be able to stand when it comes.”  Admin In this week’s episode of VOMRadio we talk with Dr. Berhane, a Christians from the small African nation of Eritrea–a nation where almost 1,000 Christians are currently in prison for their faith. Science has once again shattered the myth that milk makes strong bones. A new Swedish study links drinking milk to higher rates of bone fractures and even death.[i] The study tracked the eating habits of over 60,000 women for 20 years and over 45,000 men for 15 years. Researchers found that drinking more milk did NOT lead to lower risks of bone fracture. In fact, women who drank three glasses of milk per day broke more bones. Compared to women who drank less than one glass per day, heavy milk drinkers had a 60% greater risk of breaking a hip [More]
Earlier this year, I told you about some of the challenges in reaching Millennials for Christ, that is, young adults aged roughly 18 to 33. While 55 percent of Baby Boomers say they’re religious, only 36 percent of Millennials do. “Today,” University of Virginia sociologist W. Bradford Wilcox notes, “fully 29 percent of Millennials consider themselves religiously unaffiliated, a record postwar high. They are also much less likely to describe themselves as ‘religious’ compared with earlier generations of Americans.” Well, how is this rising generation connecting to the Bible? In a word, poorly. According to a new study by the [More]
Several years ago, when I was involved in active church consultations, I assembled data on what I called GFCs, genuinely friendly churches. I set certain parameters for GFCs; then I attempted to measure those churches guest return rates. A guest return rate is simply the percentage of guests who will return to the church for at least a second visit. Here is the simple but profound difference I found in GFCs and all other churches: A genuinely friendly church has a guest return rate six times greater than other churches. Did you get that? If a church meets the guidelines [More]
Southeastern Seminary, where I work, challenged all students, staff, and faculty to share the gospel at least once a day during the month of September. Based on my experiences that month, in addition to years of sharing Christ with family members, here are my thoughts about why my family and friends struggle with believing the gospel. “Just eliminate all soda pop from your diet, period.”  Admin Coke is the most valuable brand in history, and “Coca-Cola” is the world’s second-most recognized word after “hello.” However, the beverage itself is like a poison to the human metabolism. Coke is very acidic, it’s only one point higher on the pH scale than battery acid. Consequently it can clean surfaces equivalent to and often better than many toxic household cleaners. It’s cheaper and easier to buy Coke in some third world countries than it is to access clean water. Coke uses “public relations propaganda” to convince consumers and entire [More]
If you’re dismayed that one in five Americans (20 percent) are “nones” — people who claim no particular religious identity — brace yourself. How does 38 percent sound? That’s what religion researcher David Kinnaman calculates when he adds “the unchurched, the never-churched and the skeptics” to the nones. He calls his new category “churchless,” the same title Kinnaman has given his new book. By his count, roughly four in 10 people living in the continental United States are actually “post-Christian” and “essentially secular in belief and practice.” If asked, the “churchless” would likely check the “Christian” box on a survey, [More]
Unfortunately the typical American diet consists largely of toxic and acid-forming foods like refined grains, processed sugars, artificial sweeteners, pasteurized juices, fried foods, meat and dairy – the list goes on. Combine all of this food with a lack of sleep, stress and pharmaceutical drugs to top it all off and it’s no wonder why people are being diagnosed with various diseases at an alarming rate. It is important to maintain a proper pH balance. All foods in nature contain both acid and alkaline-forming elements and according to the Conscious Living Center, balance can be either achieved or prevented as [More]
In July, as the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) drove out more than 100,000 Christians in the area of Mosul in just a few days, many became newly aware of Islamic extremism at its worst. In Part I, we shared about Islamic extremist groups in the Middle East. Christians also face extraordinary dangers in both Africa and the Philippines. Christians working in more than fourteen countries have indicated an increase in terrorist organizations that specifically target Christian populations. In Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya, groups like al-Qaeda and Ansar al-Shariah are known for their violence. In Libya’s capital, Benghazi, Ansar al-Shariah [More]
Around the world, the advance of Islamic extremist groups is creating increasing difficulties for Christians, as Islamists seek territory and political power. Islamic groups often terrorize Christians by chasing them off of their property, appropriating Christian properties, and even kidnapping or killing family members. The increasing threat of extremism was highlighted this year with the advance of the Islamic State (IS) terror group from Syria into Iraq. Taking advantage of the war between Muslim rebels and the Syrian government, IS militants begin seizing control of cities in both Syria and Iraq and declared a “caliphate” in June 2014. As celebrations were [More]
“I was in the desert alone, lost. As far as the horizon, there was nothing in sight but sand. I felt the sand on my bare feet. Then I saw something extraordinary. In the midst of that barrenness, an immense wooden cross emerged from the earth, rising up with sand spilling from it back to earth.” So begins a dream narrative posted by Bosnian Muslim teenager Emina Emlonic. A dream about Jesus. It continues: “I felt then a spectator in my own dream, and the sight of the cross gave me neither fear nor joy. But I was a curious [More]
No doubt these are distressing times. Possibly those of which the apostle Paul prophesied (2 Tim. 3:1). As wars and rumors of wars abound, Christian persecution ramps up, deadly plagues threaten our well-being and the economy gets thrust into limbo, we’re all searching for solutions. Every two years or so we pin our hopes upon the election of some political figure. Sound bytes promising protection and prosperity fill our airwaves. And the solution for these times is offered with the institution of an ideology. But inevitably, history repeats itself. The man or woman we counted on to lift us from [More]
This week’s episode of VOMRadio is live online, featuring an interview with Gracia Burnham. Martin and Gracia Burnham were serving as missionaries in the Philippines when they went away for a few days together to celebrate their anniversary. Those few days turned into a year in the jungle when they were kidnapped by radical Muslim terrorists. In this interview, Gracia shares how she wrestled with God and even with her own faith during those dark days of captivity, and how she experienced the prayers of God’s people, even as Martin was killed during a rescue attempt. Gracia bears witness to [More]
“Contains a short but powerful video of what a Christian family’s life is like in Syria and their surrendering all to God.”  Admin It’s not too late to make sure that your church will “Remember those in bonds…” (Heb. 13:3) this Sunday on the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). Each year, VOM produces a short film for churches to show during IDOP services, to illustrate the challenges faced by our persecuted brothers and sisters and to encourage prayer on their behalf. This year’s video, Liena’s Prayer, can be viewed above. While it may be too late [More]
“There is a list of resources at the end of the article on where you can find alternative doctors who are familiar with the usage of these therapies.”  Admin Ebola is heavily featured in the news these days, bringing lots of fear and concerns. Dr. Robert Rowen who is a leading expert on oxidative therapy, offers an intriguing answer in this interview. By invitation of the President of Sierra Leone, he’s going there to teach health care workers how to treat Ebola using ozone. “I [More]
“Not surprising this is originating in California one of the main states on the cutting edge of moral decay. We’ll see more things like this as the world goes deeper into spiritual darkness.”  Admin The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) became a pioneer in the culture of death last week when it began offering a free online course teaching students about the ins and outs of abortion – from procedures to advocacy. The six-week course was made available on October 13 and is the first of its kind. Based in the public health framework, the Internet class covers patient-centered [More]
“The agenda of the left is to brainwash kids with evolution and breakdown their morals to transform them into the same kind of godless heathens they are.”  Admin Parents and legislators are outraged by a University of Hawaii program that gives gift cards to middle school students for participating in a graphic sex-ed program. Caution: this story includes terms some may find offensive. The program is called “Pono Choices.” “Pono” is the Hawaiian word for “right,” and the website states that it’s the first curriculum created for Hawaiian children ages 11 to 13. The program supposedly teaches them about pregnancy [More]
“It’s sad that most people take better care of their car and house than they do their body. Talk about misplaced priorities.”  Admin A new study finds that most U.S. adults fail to meet recommended daily levels of 10 key nutrients, and those with disabilities have even worse nutrition than average. An estimated 10 to 25 percent of U.S. adults fit into one or more category of disability, from those who have difficulties with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing and eating, to those who cannot use their legs or struggle to accomplish routine tasks, such as money [More]
“Besides drinking tomato juice, putting them in smoothies is another great way to incorporate them into your diet.”  Admin Just one serving a day of tomato-based foods can significantly lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. In fact, research has shown that tomatoes could be an ‘effective alternative’ to dangerous medications. Scientists have said that tomato juice and cooked tomatoes can have the same benefits as statins for patients battling against high cholesterol levels or high blood pressure. And just a pint of juice a day could be enough to help many patients. The secret lies in high levels [More]
“Besides the article I’ve included a video where Rabbi Cahn shows how many financial crashes have occurred during the month when the Shemitah falls. Interesting”  Admin Blood moons, plummeting stock markets and a growing Ebola pandemic dominated the headlines this past week. If that’s not enough cause for concern, there’s an army of Islamic terrorists bearing down on the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. None of this should come as a surprise to those who have read “The Mystery of the Shemitah” by Jonathan Cahn, a messianic rabbi and Bible teacher from New Jersey who also authored the best-selling Christian book [More]
“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers” (1 Pet. 4:7). What has happened to our nation? Clearly it is not the nation of my childhood. We are running headlong into death and destruction. Of the 22 civilizations throughout world history that reached the immoral state America is in now, 19 of them collapsed and were wiped out. In 1987 the late Lester Sumrall, in his book I Predict, wrote about six things that would happen in our nation. America would depart from Christianity. America would endorse pagan religions. America would [More]
