The nation’s obesity epidemic continues to grow, led by an alarming increase among women. For the first time, more than 4 in 10 U.S. women are obese, according to new government health statistics. Obesity rates for men and women in the U.S. had been roughly the same for about a decade. But in recent years, women have surged ahead and now just over 40 percent of women are obese, compared to 35 percent of men. The percentages were reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in two articles published online Tuesday by the Journal of the American Medical [More]
“Excellent article featuring an interview with a pharmacist on vaccines, western medicine, the pharmaceutical industry and more. Good read.” Admin You gotta meet Margaret*.  I changed her name to protect her privacy.  She recently emailed me to vent against Western Medicine’s push to get everyone hooked on drugs and stab kids with risky, ineffective vaccines!  Interestingly enough, she has seen medicine from an angle that most people aren’t privy too.  Margaret is a pharmacist.  With a Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, and over two decades working in the field of pharmacy, she’s seen firsthand how “guideline-driven” medicine has artificially forced every patient into [More]

Could one of the deadliest and fastest growing cancers around be stopped in its tracks – just by tossing one dangerous drug from your medicine cabinet? Believe it or not, it may be just that simple. Esophageal cancer used to be incredibly rare. But over the past 40 years, it’s become a full-blown epidemic. In fact, the number of deaths has been climbing almost every single year. And if that was all the bad news, it would be bad enough. But more Americans than ever are developing an especially aggressive form of the disease – one that doctors hardly ever [More]
If there’s one thing we all learned from the crash of 2008, it’s that any one of us could be dragged down into poverty. No one is really immune to that anymore. In the Western world, economic prosperity has been crumbling for years, and stability is rapidly disappearing for a variety reasons. Truth be told, you’ve probably read about countless disasters and survival situations on this website, but the one situation that is most likely to affect you, is a financial calamity in your family. And if that happens, one of your most pressing concerns will be food. Every resource [More]
Someone recently asked if Sorbitol in gum was a safe sweetener. Usually I simply say it’s a sugar alcohol known to cause bloating, diarrhea and gas. However, the Internet is full of more indepth articles on the sweetener and other problems such as this one: http://www.naturalnews.com/037813_sorbitol_cataracts_diabetics.html If you google enough articles you will find deaths from too much of Sorbitol. What really concerns me is its added to gum with other sweeteners. On one Wrigley’s page, now owned by Mars, is this list: Acesulfame, Aspartame, Maltitol, Sucralose, Sorbitol, and Xylitol. Here is the web site: http://www.wrigley.com/global/about-us/ingredients.aspx So I went to [More]
Americans are fat. And they’re getting fatter all the time. It was just last month when we showed you a series of graphics that demonstrated how it came to this. In short, average calories available to Americans jumped 25 percent to 2500, between 1970 and 2010. And it wasn’t because the US added a fourth meal to the day. It was all added fats and grains (which include oils and fats in processed foods and flour) which used to make up 37% of America’s diet, but now comprise something like 46%. The biggest contributor to the trend was cost. The [More]
“Dr. Ron Paul’s thoughts on the proposed mandatory “depression” screening.”  Admin The United States Preventive Services Task Force recently recommended mandatory depression screening for all Americans. The task force wants to force health insurance companies to pay for the screening. Basic economics, as well as the Obamacare disaster, should have shown this task force that government health insurance mandates harm Americans. Government health insurance mandates raise the price of health insurance. Consumers will respond to this increase by either choosing to not carry health insurance or by reducing their consumption of other goods and services. Imposing new health insurance mandates [More]
In 2012, the Food and Drug Administration banned the use of Bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles, sippy cups, and infant formula packaging. Manufacturers had already dropped the use of BPA after studies linked it to early puberty and a rise in breast and prostate cancers.   “BPA-free” became all the rage, but even in 2014, there were hints that BPA alternatives were not as safe as presumed. Anew study by UCLA researchers is adding to the evidence that BPS—the most common alternative—is most likely no safer than BPA.   “Our findings are frightening and important,” said senior author Nancy Wayne. Bone weakening is a common problem associated with aging. In most people, sometime during your 30s, your bone mass will begin to gradually decline. For women, that bone loss can significantly speed up during the first 10 years after menopause.   This is the period when osteoporosis often develops, provided you’re not doing anything to counteract it, that is. Those with osteoporosis are at increased risk of height loss, fractures of the hips, wrists, and vertebrae, and chronic pain.   Many are under the mistaken impression that a prescription drug combined with megadose calcium supplements is the answer to strong [More]

Now that the FDA has approved salmon as the first genetically modified animal for consumption, genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, have once again entered the spotlight. GMOs, organisms whose genes have been manipulated to change certain characteristics, are revered by some for their potential to be more resistant to stressors like extreme weather and for their ability to produce a higher yield, among other advantages. Others worry they will contaminate conventional populations or may pose major health concerns. In April, Chipotle fueled the debate by announcing its new GMO-free menu. Another major source of controversy is that the FDA doesn’t [More]

Although 2014 was the shining year for numerous foods, many would attest that turmeric held the gold medal in ‘hottest foods of 2014.’ The spice is relatively reasonably priced, available, and boasts seemingly countless health benefits. One of those benefits is revealed in a study conducted relatively recently, one which found that turmeric may contribute to the regeneration of a ‘damaged brain’ and help with neurological disorders.   Published in the journal Stem Cell Research & Therapy, this recent study both showcases yet another benefit of turmeric while providing evidence that the magic compound “curcumin” within turmeric isn’t the only compound [More]

There are thousands of natural compounds that have been studied with demonstrable anti-cancer activity (check out over 600 on our cancer research database), but only a small subset of these have been proven to target and kill the cancer stem cells which lie at the root of cancer malignancy. Turmeric, for instance, we have featured a number of times for this “smart kill” property of targeting just the heart of cancerous tumors. More recently, ginger has been found in pre-clinical research to contain a compound up to 10,000 times more effective than the chemotherapy drug Taxol at killing breast cancer [More]
Glyphosate has been detected in human bodies, food, water and in the air. Its use has been strongly associated with various diseases (see this and this). Following the WHO’s classification, the European Food and Safety Authority (EFSA) has been conducting an evaluation of glyphosate and will send its final conclusions to the European Commission (EC) for consideration within the next few days. The EC will then decide whether this herbicide should be included in the EU’s list of approved active substances. The original sanctioning and testing of glyphosate for commercial use was seriously flawed: for example, see this, this, this, [More]
