Pine bark supplements help protect the body from the effects of oxidative stress after exercise, according to a study published in the Journal of Dietary Supplements.   Researchers from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette said that taking pine bark supplements led to lower levels of malonaldehyde (MDA), a toxic compound that serves as a biomarker for oxidative stress. This effect was seen 48 hours after exercise among individuals who took the supplements for at least two weeks.   The researchers noted that high physical activity often spurs higher levels of oxidative stress. But by taking pine bark supplements, individuals can benefit from an enhanced [More]
The Silicon Valley company, Profusa,1 in partnership with the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA),2 has created an injectable biosensor capable of detecting the presence of an infection in your body.3   In early August 2019, months before COVID-19 became a household word, DARPA granted Profusa additional funding “to develop an early identification system to detect disease outbreaks, biological attacks and pandemics up to three weeks earlier than current methods.”4   As discussed in “Will New COVID Vaccine Make You Transhuman?” we appear to stand at the doorway of a brave new world in which man is increasingly merged with technology [More]

Vitamin D deficiency increases a person’s risk for catching COVID-19 by 77% compared to those with sufficient levels of the nutrient, a study published Thursday by JAMA Network Open found.   As many as one in four of the nearly 500 participants in the study were found to have less-than-optimal levels of vitamin D, the data showed.   Read More: Vitamin D deficiency raises COVID-19 infection risk by 77%, study finds – UPI.com
Madagascar attracted a lot of attention in April when the African island nation announced it was using a local plant to combat coronavirus. A drink using artemisia plant extracts was promoted by its leader, President Andry Rajoelina. There’s no evidence so far that this plant – whose compounds do work against malaria – can combat Covid-19, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). So what do we know about the plant and its properties? …read more Source: Sott health news feed
By Brian-Admin   On today’s (8/31/20) Liberty Report show with Dr. Ron Paul and co-host Daniel McAdams, the “bombshell” report recently issued by the CDC on COVID deaths was discussed, where the CDC admitted that only 6% of the deaths they attributed to COVID had no comorbidity factors. The other 94% had, on average, 2.6 other serious diseases. As Daniel McAdams discusses on the show, while the presence of other serious diseases does not automatically exclude COVID as being attributed as the cause of death, it does greatly reduce the hyped numbers being fed to the public through the corporate propaganda [More]
By Lori Alton, staff writer (NaturalHealth365) Threats to health – including exposure to environmental toxins, heavy metals, EMF radiation, bacteria and viruses – seem to be everywhere these days, highlighting the need for a strong, efficient immune system. And, with 80 percent of the immune system located in the gut, it’s easy to see that immune health and gut health are closely connected. In fact, scientific research showcases the ability of a natural molecule, glutathione, to support the health of the immune system. But, this amazing substance must be effectively regenerated and recycled by the body before it can accomplish [More]

By Linda Kordich Loveday (NaturalHealth365) Chronic cellular inflammation is one of our biggest enemies – in terms of achieving optimal health. In fact, many health experts say that inflammation is the root cause of disease. In addition, the psychological (and emotional) stress of living in modern society can actually lower our ability to regulate the inflammatory response. Naturally, the question we ought to ask ourselves is, “what causes inflammation?” And, the obvious answer is poor nutrition and too many toxins – which creates an overly-acidic condition in the body. So, which foods create an acidic environment in the …read more [More]
You generally take more medications as you get older. The doctor prescribes a statin to lower cholesterol, a steroid spray for allergies, a proton pump inhibitor for reflux, and a painkiller for the knee that’s still sore after that running injury a few years back. But too many medications, sometimes referred to as polypharmacy, can become a problem — the more medicines you take, the greater the chances one medication will have a negative interaction with another and cause a serious adverse effect. At some point, you and your doctor may need to ask a fundamental question: Do you need [More]
By Sara Tipton We’re all looking for some activities to do with the family to welcome in the fall. With so many places still closed and others changing rules and schedules to work around the coronavirus restrictions, making plans to spend some time with family can be tough. If you want to spend quality time with your family, you can start by having a “family meeting” to discuss things you can do together. Kids love doing this because it makes them feel involved in the decision instead of being forced to go along. Related: The Scientific Reason Behind Why We [More]

Restoring normal patterns of rhythmic neural activity through non-invasive electrical stimulation of the brain alleviates sound-processing deficits and improves reading accuracy in adults with dyslexia, according to a study published September 8, 2020 in the open-access journal PLOS Biology by Silvia Marchesotti and Anne-Lise Giraud of the University of Geneva, and colleagues. Dyslexia is a frequent disorder of reading acquisition that affects up to 10% of the population, and is characterized by lifelong difficulties with written material. Although several possible causes have been proposed for dyslexia, the predominant one is a phonological deficit, i.e., a difficulty in processing language sounds. [More]
Is there any life left in the cholesterol hypothesis (a.k.a. the lipid hypothesis)? Is there anything left for serious scientists to cling to or is time for its mouldering corpse to end up on the trash heap of medical history, alongside lobotomy, bloodletting and the theory of the four humors? I was asked this question by a reader of this blog recently, and as it happens, a systematic review was recently published in Evidence Based Medicine (my favorite medical journal, mainly because it is edited by the brilliant Dr. Carl Heneghan) that definitively answers this question, so I thought it [More]

By Joy Jensen, staff writer (NaturalHealth365) Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become an epidemic in the U.S. – with over 100 million people being affected by this disease. To make matters even worse, most people have no idea it’s happening to them. To be clear: poor liver function has the potential to progress to more serious health issues like, chronic liver inflammation, scarring and cancer. In the past, experts simply believed that NAFLD affected primarily overweight individuals. And, while that’s true that obesity is connected to a fatty liver – there is a much bigger problem (no pun intended) [More]
The pressure is mounting for a COVID vaccine to be approved. Will there be transparency on its safety and effectiveness? Action Alert! There have been a number of federal actions around the issue of a COVID vaccine in recent weeks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released technical guidelines to states, telling them to be prepared to store, distribute, and administer a COVID vaccine as early as late October or early November. Lawmakers have also introduced a bill aimed at instilling public confidence in an eventual COVID vaccine, but the bill does anything but. These actions underscore the [More]
