Jesus told his disciples to “Go into all the world.” He didn’t say it would be easy. Verne and Denny Johnson have experienced the joy of seeing people come to Christ while serving as missionaries in Ivory Coast. But they’ve also experienced dark days. They watched their children almost die from malaria. War forced them to evacuate their home and leave the people they loved. But God even used those dark times to bring blessings into their lives, and to open the door for further ministry. Listen as Verne and Denny share their story, and share specific ways for you [More]
Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8, CEV)   In case you didn’t know it, August is “Happiness Happens Month.” Established by the Secret Society of Happy People, this happy month-long celebration encourages people to do something that makes them happy every single day. Author Michelle Medlock Adams is celebrating 24 years of a happy marriage. Here are her top 3 tips for keeping your marriage strong. Today, Jeff and I celebrate 24 years of marriage, and I couldn’t be happier about it. You see, I picked him out when I was in eighth grade. I was at my best friend’s house practicing for our upcoming cheer tryouts when I saw him. He was shooting hoops with my best friend’s older brother. “Who is that with Ryan?” I asked. “Oh that’s Jeff Adams,” Angie answered. I stared in his direction for a few minutes longer, [More]
Just as I was finishing up my book signing at the International Christian Retail Show (ICRS) in Orlando a few years ago, I noticed a woman waiting at the edge of the Guideposts booth. “We just ran out of books,” I explained, as I walked over to her, “but I’d be happy to mail you a copy from my personal stash at home.” “Oh that’s Ok,” she said. “I actually just want to talk to you.” I smiled but I was actually worried that maybe I’d met her previously and didn’t remember her. Just as I was about to ask [More]
“History repeating itself.”  Admin The fall of Rome was a culmination of several external and internal factors. Great Wall of China By 220 A.D., the Later Eastern Han Dynasty had extended sections of the Great Wall of China along its Mongolian border. This resulted in the Northern Huns attacking west instead of east. This caused a domino effect of tribes migrating west across Central Asia, and overrunning the Western Roman Empire. Open borders Illegal immigrants poured across the Roman borders: Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Franks, Anglos, Saxons, Alemanni, Thuringians, Rugians, Jutes, Picts, Burgundians, Lombards, Alans, Vandals as well as African Berbers and [More]
I heard a story about a minster who was walking down the street and saw a group of boys standing around a dog. The minister thought they might be thinking about hurting the dog, so he approached them and said, “Boys, what are you doing to that dog?” “Well, pastor, we all love this dog,” one of the boys explained. “We all want to take him home, but only one of us can do it. So we figured that whoever here tells the biggest lie gets to take the dog home.” Outraged by such a thing, the minister said, “How [More]
“Excellent interview with the author on his 12 yr. investigation into the Exodus. Great reviews for the DVD.”  Admin IS IT really possible that one of the most significant events in history left no trace in the archaeological record? That’s the consensus of Egyptologists, who contend that the 400-year sojourn of the Hebrews never happened because there is no evidence. Could the national history of Israel, as well as the foundation for Judeo-Christian morality, actually be a work of fiction? Filmmaker Tim Mahoney experienced what he calls “a crisis of faith” and decided to find out for himself. The result [More]
On its way to the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., which is being built by Hobby Lobby President Steve Green for $400 million, visitors will find the largest collection of exported Israeli artifacts found on the planet. Slated to open its doors in 2017 after its groundbreaking earlier this year in February, the 430,000-square-foot Museum of the Bible will house Israeli artifacts that include pieces of the Dead Sea Scrolls, tablets from Abraham’s time and biblical papyri. The head of the Israel Antiquities Authority’s (IAA) National Treasures Department, Micky Saban, announced on Wednesday that the antiquities being shipped [More]
There’s a passage of holy writ that has baffled Bible teachers for centuries, confounding and teasing them, to the point where most modern preachers pass right by it like a trucker skirting a weigh station. Who is “Mystery Babylon,” that “great whore” spoken of in Revelation 17-18 that commits “fornication” with world rulers, lives in extreme luxury and gets “drunk with the blood of the saints” before finally meeting her fiery destruction? Who is this mysterious woman? Popular theories say it’s the Roman Catholic Church. Others point to New York City, seat of the United Nations, Wall Street and all [More]
In the face of a U.S. Supreme Court decision finding a constitutional right to gay marriage and the Oklahoma State Supreme ruling a Ten Commandments monument unconstitutional, many Christians are experiencing increased intolerance in the public square. But does the increasingly secular culture mean believers need to adjust how they share the gospel? “Yes, I mean, and no,” said Tim Keller, founding pastor at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City. “No in that you don’t change the good news, but, yes, it does I think change the way you share it.” Keller is the author of several well-known Christian [More]
I fully realize that most of us Americans cannot fathom a world in which food cannot be obtained from the supermarket or fuel cannot be obtained from the corner gas station or that the power grid could be offline for more than a few hours. Hardly anyone in the national media will even entertain the idea that anything catastrophic could ever happen in this country that would disrupt our lives for more than a few days. Additionally, the vast majority of pastors and churches refuse to deal with any of these issues and do their best to keep people comfortably [More]
Why is the church in China growing so quickly? One reason is because Chinese Christians are focused and intentional about sharing the gospel message with others. Jonathan and Nick, two of VOM’s international workers, just returned from visiting bold Christian workers all over China. They saw first-hand the witnessing efforts of Chinese Christians when a Christian woman on their flight began to share the gospel with them! And a couple of rows away her husband was on the same flight, in a middle seat, sharing the gospel with the passengers on either side of him. Listen in to this week’s [More]
Over the past two years, countless stories of church demolitions and cross removals have come out of China. Estimates vary, but the total figure of churches affected is believed to be somewhere between 1,500 and 1,700 – a move that campaigners have branded unprecedented, or at least not seen since the harrowing days of the Cultural Revolution. The demolition campaign began in Zhejiang province, on the east coast of China, in late 2013. The provincial government had launched a three-year ‘Three Rectifications and One Demolition’ campaign in March of that year, supposedly with the aim of exposing and removing “illegal [More]
“It will be quite interesting to see what happens the rest of 2015 and next year.”  Admin Pastor Mark Biltz, discoverer of the blood-moons phenomenon and the author of “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs,” says Christians today are being given signs from the heavens. In Biltz’s opinion, the current sequence of blood moons “is a sign for today’s Christians as judgment always begins in the house of God.” “I believe the current blood moons also signal the end of an era,” he said. Biltz notes there’s something else unique about this tetrad: its convergence with biblical holy days. [More]

Mary of Magdala, popularly known as Mary Magdalene, is one of the more prominent figures in the Bible’s New Testament. She stayed with Jesus Christ until His crucifixion, while His apostles were in hiding. She was also among the first persons to whom the resurrected Christ showed Himself. Recently, archaeologists unearthed a first-century synagogue under a purchased land in northern Israel, believed to be part of Mary Magdalene’s home town. Along with the synagogue, an ancient altar or “bimah” was also uncovered. This is now being called “the Magdala Stone” by archaeologists. Read More : Synagogue in Mary Magdalene’s town [More]

“Yes, God is indeed concerned even about the “absurd” prayers we need answered.”  Admin I stood crookedly in the middle of High Street, one hand holding onto my six-year-old daughter, the other clutching my busted shoe. We’d been enjoying a beautiful summer day shopping in Stevenage, a town 40 minutes from our home in southeastern England. Until I stepped off the curb and stumbled on the uneven pavement. I didn’t fall…but the sole of my shoe had torn off the heel. What now? I couldn’t walk around barefoot! My daughter had laughed that morning when she saw my shoes, battered [More]
C’mon, Kathy, keep going. My legs burned with every stride, sweat dripped down my face as I ran outside in the scorching Florida heat. The desolate country road ahead of me seemed endless. How long had I been out here? Was I making good time? Would I really be ready to run a marathon? I had no way of knowing. I was completely lost without my training partner—my hot pink iPod, ruined on my last run thanks to an unexpected rainstorm. My 50 th birthday was coming up, and my daughter and I had decided to celebrate the milestone with [More]
“You never know how a good deed will be paid back!”  Admin I cruised down the wide-open freeway in my red Chevy pickup and glanced at the dashboard clock. 5:30 AM. Only a few hours till I’d arrive in Ellsworth, Michigan, my hometown. After a weekend in Detroit visiting my fiancé’s family, it was time to get back to work. I had a plumbing job at 9:00, sharp. I stepped on the gas, picked up speed, and… Pop! That noise didn’t sound good. My eyes darted to the rearview mirror. A black rubber strip had whipped out from underneath my [More]
My 63-year-old dad had been in love with my mom ever since he saw her at a Christmas party at church when he was 17 and she was 14. She was his best friend, the one constant in all of his memories, his dreams, his motivation, his adolescence; she was his planning partner for the rest of their days on earth. Mom was essentially Dad’s entire life. That’s why, when one morning she ironed my dad’s work shirts, straightened up the house, and walked out the door of their home while he was at work—never to return—it waylaid my dad [More]
I first met Vera in 1983, when I moved to my little farm with the somewhat dilapidated farmhouse. Her40 acres adjoined my 25 acres, so she was my neighbor. Already in her upper seventies and a widow of ten years, Vera was one of those memorable women who live out their lives on their beloved homesteads. “My Dwight passed on ten years ago,” she told me on her first visit, when she came to greet me with a freshly baked peach pie and a welcoming smile. “And my two girls moved on to live their lives in cities,so I guess [More]
