The percentage of adults in the United States who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender has hit a new high of 7,1 percent, double the 2012 level,” Gallup said on Thursday. Ten years ago, the LGBTQ share was 3,5 percent.

 

The current survey covered a total of 12 000 people. About 86 percent of people reported being heterosexual during the survey. While only 2,6 percent of older people (born between 1946 and 1964) classified themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transsexual, the figure for young adults (born between 1981 and 1996) was 10,5 percent.
