A petition before the U.S. Supreme Court carries big implications for the First Amendment.
Thomas More Law Center is asking the court to prevent what it calls Maine’s persecution of a pro-life pastor who is also a pro-life activist.
“Pastor Andrew March preaches peacefully on the public sidewalk outside the Planned Parenthood in Portland, Maine, which is a very unfriendly place for pro-lifers,” says TMLC attorney Kate Oliveri.
The pastor “calmly” talks to women, without yelling or using a megaphone, the attorney insists, but Portland officials are prosecuting him and others under a noise provision in the Maine Civil Rights Act.
