2015 was the “worst year in modern history for Christian persecution,” according to Open Doors, a human rights organization that has been documenting the persecution of Christians since 1955. According to its latest data, more than 7,000 Christians were killed for their faith in 2015 — almost twice as many as in 2014. In addition, more than 2,400 churches were attacked, damaged or destroyed — again, more than double the number of the previous year. In the words of Open Doors’ CEO, David Curry: “The 2016 World Watch List [which ranks the 50 nations where Christians are most persecuted] documents [More]
My sister, Martie, and her husband, Jan, (who are pastors of Stonegate Faith Center in Bedford, Indiana) just returned from ministry work in Ecuador, and I couldn’t wait to hear all that God had done during their two weeks abroad. As I listened to them share about their adventures over dinner the other night, I was amazed! So many changed lives! As dinner came to a close, I noticed that my sister had a new ring on her right hand, so I asked about it. Immediately, tears came to her eyes as she began telling me about her beautiful new [More]
Trudy Harris, hospice nurse and best-selling author of Glimpses of Heaven and More Glimpses of Heaven, shares proof of life after death and near death experiences in these letters. Hi Trudy, I have spent 22 years as a nurse and I have seen some strange and miraculous things happen at the bedside of dying patients. Because of my experience, I have never questioned God’s authority over death. I have seen two personal instances of “glimpses of heaven.” My mother was very ill with pancreatitis and was placed in ICU, where we thought she would die. Read More: Proof of Life [More]
The Muslim convert to Christianity who is emerging as one of the world’s leading experts on Islam has issued a chilling warning of the fundamental violence within the faith. Nabeel Qureshi, whose book Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus became a New York Times best seller, believes the world is in the midst of an Islamic reformation. This means a return to the religion’s fundamentals, he told Christian Today, and there is no doubt that these fundamentals are explicitly violent. Qureshi told Christian Today: “There is a basis to believe in Jesus. He rose from the dead. You can check that historically. [More]
There are times when life gets hard, when something happens that is really tough, when we’re weathering a storm. There are also times when we don’t really feel God’s presence in our lives. We wonder what is going on. We wonder whether we’ve done something wrong. The Bible calls times like these trials, and it talks…
“Lance” is a gospel worker in the nation of Turkey, a nation where 99.8% of the almost-80-million people are Muslims. This week on VOM Radio, Lance shares some of the challenges he faced in moving to a Muslim nation, building relationships and reaching out with the gospel. Lance also helps train students and others to impact the Muslim world for Christ, and he’ll share some of the most important qualities needed to work effectively among Muslims. Three years ago, the Health Ministry of Costa Rica and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched a campaign to curb teen pregnancy.   At the time, the Costa Rican Health Ministry and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) were alarmed that teenage mothers represented 15%-20% of all childbirths in the country, with some 500 babies born to mothers under age 15. The issue, says Melissa Heiland with Beautiful Feet International, “They’ve been so sexualized from a very young age that they don’t know that God has a plan for sex within marriage and that it is His design to be [More]
“For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” – James 4:14 Has anybody noticed how many famous people passed into eternity this last year? Leonard Nimoy, Yogi Berra, Wes Craven, Frank Gifford, Roddy Piper, Jerry Weintraub, Dean Jones, Geoffery Lewis, Fred Thompson, Robert Loggia… “A subject most people choose ignore which is quite foolish given what’s at stake … ones eternal destiny.”  Admin
For Christians in China, persecution is just “part of the package” for those who follow Christ. Dory, part of VOM’s newsletter staff, just returned from China, where she met Christians who face arrest and imprisonment for following Jesus Christ. This week she shares stories from her trip on VOM radio. Listen to hear how: One of her meetings with a pastor had to be cancelled because the pastor was arrested before she could meet him How a pastor shared after his wife was arrested that they’d been prepared for arrest, but they thought it would be him that was arrested, [More]
“As the tax-paying funders of education, it is parents who are primarily responsible for the way that children are educated,” said Dr David Landrum, director of advocacy for the EA and the author of a new resource released today. “It’s important to remember that the state is only there to maintain our school system,” he said. The report, ‘You’re not alone: a guide for the Christian family in education,’ observed that churches need to do far more in helping parents engage with their children’s education. “Parents are the primary socialisers and therefore hold primary responsibility for their child’s education,” Landrum [More]
There are many good reasons to read the Bible–inspiration, comfort, instruction.   But one of the best reasons is for instruction in how to pray. And one of many ways the Bible instructs us in praying is by showing us examples of how the people of God have prayed before us. One such lesson is to give God good reasons to answer your prayers.   Most of us, knowing God knows everything and can see into our hearts, skip this technique. But the prayers of the Bible show us that building a case to God in prayer is definitely a [More]
How would you respond to the person who betrayed you to the authorities, leading to 14 years in prison? Richard Wurmbrand’s response was simple: “We all make mistakes.” Dale Rhoton, co-founder of Operation Mobilization, joins us again this week on VOM Radio to share about his visits with VOM founders Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, including a walk with Richard when they met the man who had betrayed Richard, leading to his arrest. Dale also shares thoughts and advice for those sensing a call to missions and talks about his own early days ministering in communist and Muslim nations, and fellowshipping [More]

With the United Kingdom’s growing reputation as a post-Christian nation, a recent poll shows that its citizens’ beliefs about Christianity might not be exactly as many expected. To find out what Britons really think about Jesus, Christians and the Bible, the Evangelical Alliance, HOPE International and the Church of England commissioned the Barna Group to get a better feel for the island nation’s spiritual climate. More than 3,000 adults were surveyed, and the results were nationally representative of the U.K.’s 18-and-older population, with the younger generation tending to be more skeptical about the Bible and its teachings. “You don’t have [More]
Archaeological evidence now proves the Gospel of John is true. Though discovered more than a decade ago, the pool of Siloam continues to make headlines, most recently in an analysis by author and speaker Eric Metaxas. In John 9, Jesus spat in the dirt, rubbed the mud on a blind man’s eyes and then commanded him to go wash in the Pool of Siloam. Workers stumbled upon this very pool in 2005 while repairing sewage pipes. “Scholars have said that there wasn’t a Pool of Siloam and that John was using a religious conceit” to illustrate a point, New Testament [More]
I am not a hobby shopper. Some women salivate at every sale sign and peruse the racks and shelves for entertainment. But for me, shopping is like having my teeth cleaned—a necessity that must be endured. I might still be wearing last decade’s styles if God had not infiltrated my aversion to stores, taken the pain out of purchasing—and transformed my understanding of prayer. It all started with an orange carpet stain. My daughter, who was in elementary school at the time, accidentally spilled juice on the carpet in our family room. Discovering the dried stain days later, I shot [More]
Growing up in the United States, there is a common belief that the very nature of prison itself is so awful that it would inspire in criminals a conviction never to return, and therefore to stay on the “straight and narrow.” This perspective, though, doesn’t account for the reality that numerous factors – education, access to jobs, a stable family life, and a sense of purpose – impact recidivism (the rate at which people return to prison). In fact, a sense of purpose – faith – may be the most important among these factors that influence change. And faith is [More]
With many new movies portraying the life of Jesus on the big screen, including Risen, which is released February 19th and The Young Messiah on March 11th, some viewers may overlook the impact and role that women have in the great commission that Jesus gave. One of the most prominent women around Christ’s ministry here on earth is Mary Magdalene, who has a poignant scene in Risen. Here are five things women can learn from this important biblical figure. Last week I wrote a column noting that the Bible is being unconstitutionally banned in the public schools far too often – and even being treated like asbestos, to borrow a line from Christian attorney Jordan Lorence. A reader responded to that article negatively, raising a common objection that the founders supposedly intended a secular government,…
By most accounts, it is a clever, funny commercial – but the fact that it clearly shows a baby in the womb is not a “clump of cells” has evidently offended abortion supporters. “I thought it was a clever ad; it was funny,” says National Right to Life Committee president Carol Tobias. “But what NARAL doesn’t like is that it showed the unborn child as a human being with a personality – and they want everybody to think this is just a clump of cells.” Read More: ‘Clever’ Super Bowl ad has pro-life fans
In Richard Wurmbrand’s time (and in many communist countries still), persecutors did all they could to hide their persecution of Christ’s followers. Communists even gave Richard a different name in prison in an effort to hide him from the world and from Christians trying to find and help him. Communists in China have told us for years that there is no persecution of Christians there, that raids on house churches aren’t about faith but about government policy and Christians’ refusal to register their meetings. Hide, deny, obfuscate: the old-school persecutor’s playbook. Radical Islam is different. They WANT you to know [More]
Dr. Jason Peters and VOM Radio host Todd Nettleton just returned from meeting Christians and delivering aid in northern Iraq. This week they’ll share about the Christians they met, many of whom have been displaced by the advance of ISIS over the past 18 months. They’ll also talk about some of the ways VOM is helping these Christians, including the launch of a new effort inviting American believers to prepare a medical first-aid kit to give to these displaced Christians. They’ll share other ways VOM is helping Christians, and the story of a displaced Christian who is experiencing joy and [More]
VOM’s Todd Nettleton was back yesterday for a second hour on The Eric Metaxas Show, aired nationally on Salem Radio. For the first few days after Bob Fu was arrested for his Christian work in China, his prayers were pretty simple: “Lord, get me out of here!” He even prayed that God would punish his interrogators for persecuting God’s children! But as days passed, Bob saw that God had a ministry for him in prison, and his prayers changed. Instead of praying only to be released, he asked God to use him while he was in prison. And God answered his prayer. Today Bob is the president of the China Aid Association, a bold advocate for China’s Christians and author [More]
“For more great teaching by Bro. Hagin click here.”  Admin THE LORD ENLIGHTENS US and guides us through our spirits (Prov. 20:27). If that be the case—and it is—then we need to become more spirit conscious. We need to become more conscious that we are spirit beings, not just mental or physical beings. We need to train our spirits so they will become safer guides. One thing which has held back the Christian world as a whole is that we are more physical-conscious (body-conscious) and more mental-conscious (soul-conscious) than we are spirit-conscious. We have developed the body and the soul, [More]
