A recent article in The Federalist was titled “How Vacation Bible School Drove Millennials Away from Church.” While we wouldn’t agree with everything in the article, the author’s main point is one we’ve noticed—many VBS curricula are shallow and focus more on the outside trappings, like decorations, crafts, and music, instead of teaching the kids biblical content—and how to defend the Christian faith which is under attack all around us.
The author writes that many VBS programs “sneak in the most minimalistic of teachings on Jesus (if you’re lucky) or ‘God’ generically understood.” He goes on to say,
