The story of Daniel in the lion’s den is told in the sixth chapter of the Book of Daniel, in the Old Testament of the Bible. The narrative describes how Daniel was thrown into a pit with hungry lions for praying to God, but miraculously escaped.

King Darius, of the Achaemenid Empire, decreed that it was only permitted to worship the king and that anyone who disobeyed would be thrown into the lion’s den. Daniel, the king’s friend, was caught praying to God and thrown into the pit. Daniel escaped because his God sent an angel who closed the lions’ mouths. King Darius had Daniel taken out of the pit and ordered that the men who accused him be thrown into the pit.
