Rather than dousing your body in toxic mosquito repellent, a natural alternative is going viral for its impressive effects. The “coffee hack” consists of burning coffee grounds in hopes that the smoke released will disrupt the mosquito’s sense of smell.

David Blue, co-founder of Mozzie Dome Pest Control stated, “They find humans by smelling the carbon dioxide we exhale, our sweat glands, and natural body odor and the intense smell of coffee makes the mosquitoes disoriented, leaving them unable to find their target.”

This coffee hack works with any type of grounds so no need to break out your favorite dark roasted brew. Simply place dry grounds in a heat-proof container, add a couple dashes of lighter fluid and allow the grounds to burn for the desired amount of time that you need the repellent.
