11/23/23   “Adversity at times can bring out the best in us.” Admin   It was well after midnight when I stepped out of the taxi onto the Alaska Pacific Seafoods parking lot in Kodiak, Alaska. A whipping wind drove snow into my eyes and I shivered in the single-digit temperature.   “Here ya go,” the taxi driver said as he hauled my gear out of the trunk and dropped it in the snow. He climbed back into the cab and drove away. “Wait!” I wanted to shout. “Don’t leave me here. I can’t do this crazy job after all!” [More]
11/22/23   “Something every Christian needs to be!” Admin   So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11, NLT)   I was once again reminded this week how much I adore and appreciate a feisty woman of faith named Wilma Cheek. Not only is she Mama to a couple of my favorite people, but also she is the woman who led my family on a journey of faith that changed us from complacent Christians to fired-up followers of Jesus.   Following the urging of the Holy Spirit, Wilma gave my [More]
11/01/23 “Sometimes a small act of generosity can reap unexpected benefits.” Admin It all started with a Cronut–the doughnut-crossed-with-a-croissant delicacy that’s taken New York by storm. Ever since it debuted last year at the Dominique Ansel Bakery, I’ve wanted one. But quantities are limited. You have to get to the bakery very early in the morning, and even then, the line wraps around the block. Two months ago, though, my sister’s boyfriend, Jeff, managed to get his hands on a few. He offered to give me a precious Cronut, but I’d have to walk to his office, 20 minutes away to pick [More]
11/01/23   An interview with Christian evangelist Ray Comfort has been posted online by CBN News in which he describes how the demons possessing a young woman “screamed like you wouldn’t believe.”   It happened as he was destroying a “trinket” that the woman had, which he perceived as tied to the occult. The interview:   Watch: Top evangelist: ‘The demons in her screamed like you wouldn’t believe’
10/06/23   Mom, what are pronouns?” my 12-year-old daughter asked after accompanying me on a speaking engagement at a theologically conservative church. She had been invited to join some other students for their midweek service when a substitute youth leader asked her for her preferred pronouns.   Let that sink in. A Bible-believing, Jesus-loving church was simply one volunteer youth leader away from potentially indoctrinating their students with radical gender theory. This is why as Christian parents we must be vigilant to train and protect our kids in a culture that has lost its moral compass.   But this is [More]
10/03/23   Since tomorrow is my oldest niece’s birthday, and since Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I thought I’d share a story with you that’s very special to our family.   Every time I think about Mandy’s struggle to conceive or tell others about the miracle that followed, I am once again reminded that God’s Word is alive. You see, the Bible is more than just a good book filled with great stories. It’s the Good Book full of great promises. It’s your lifeline! So why do so many of us leave it on the coffee table instead [More]
09/26/23   Jim Kelly, a former quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, officially became a Christian with his recent baptism wherein he wore a shirt proclaiming “God is Real.”   Kelly, who played 11 seasons with the Buffalo Bills between 1986 and 1996, shared a video of the Baptism on his wife’s Instagram in which he replied “Yes I do” when asked if he loves Jesus.   “I have witnessed God at work in this man’s life for over 30 years…and I can tell you that God isn’t just REAL, He is faithful, trustworthy, kind, loving, compassionate, powerful, gracious, GOOD, merciful, [More]
09/21/23   To kick off Lunch-Break Miracles, I talked to the one person who taught me all about miracles in the first place: my mom!   As I mentioned in my first post, she’s been enchanting me with tales of wonder ever since I was a kid. Both my parents grew up in Midyat, Turkey, a small town bordering Iraq and Syria. It wasn’t an easy place to live, especially as a Christian minority. But, even so, my mom has always been able to find God’s miracles in the worst of situations.   “God has something up his sleeve,” she says [More]
09/21/23   If there’s one thing I can’t stand people saying, it’s, “I’m no good at anything … I don’t have any talent.” I just don’t buy that at all. To me, everyone has at least one talent, and while it sometimes takes you a lifetime to find, it does exist.   There was a time, of course, when I didn’t believe that. What changed my mind was a seemingly small event that took place back in 1953.   At that time I was a skinny little high-school sophomore in Collingswood, New Jersey, a town just across the Delaware River [More]
09/22/23   What’s wrong with a guy who isn’t scared when he nearly breaks his neck filming Western pictures, but gets the shakes when he has to make a simple speech? For years I asked myself this question.   I was shy from my boyhood days when we lived on the Ohio River in a three-room houseboat built by my father. Our family–Mother, Dad, and three sisters–later settled on a farm outside Portsmouth, Ohio. Dad worked in a shoe factory, while my sisters and I helped Mother run the farm.   We kids went to a one-room schoolhouse, which was [More]
09/06/23   I stood looking around the airport in Newark, New Jersey, trying not to panic. It was the early 1960s. I was a young girl just arrived from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, hoping for an acting career in New York City. I’d made a terrible mistake.   An acquaintance had promised to meet me at the airport. But nobody told me that three airports served New York City! I’d originally had tickets to La Guardia, but at the last minute the ticket agent switched me to another flight. He didn’t mention I’d be arriving at a different airport.   Believe me, I [More]
08/27/23   A new study done by George Barna for the Family Research Council shows that nearly nine in 10 respondents say it’s important for Christians to have a biblical worldview, and large numbers believe it is “clear and decisive” on a number of issues, ranging from marriage to divorce to abortion.   But large numbers say they still would like more training on specific disputes.   The poll, of 1,009 adults, 18 or older, who attend a worship service at a Christian church at least once a month, said 68% believe the church they attend provides a “comprehensive and [More]
06/18/23   New research conducted by the American Bible Society reveals that Christians heavily engaged with the Bible and their faith “flourish in every domain of human experience.”   The American Bible Society released Chapter 3 of its State of the Bible 2023 report Thursday, titled “Flourishing and Hope.” Data in the State of the Bible report is based on 2,761 responses collected from U.S. adults between Jan. 5-30. It has a margin of error of +/- 2.59 percentage points.   “Our research confirms something millions of Christians know through personal experience—that the Bible has the power to transform our lives and [More]
01/06/22   Parishioners in the United Kingdom were shocked and appalled in November to hear a University of Cambridge student pontificate during his chapel message that Jesus Christ is transgender.   Franklin Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, was quick to rebuke the absurdity of the claim in a Facebook post, calling the sermon “blasphemous.”   “This is repulsive and shameful,” Franklin wrote. “To insinuate that Jesus Christ, the Holy Son of God, is transgender or to sexualize in any way His sacrificial death on the Cross for the sins of mankind is utter heresy.” [More]
01/05/23   “Friends” star Matthew Perry shocked the world recently when he opened up about his years-long battle with heavy drugs and alcohol, but now new details about his road to recovery reveal that it was a heartfelt prayer to God that played a key role in finally freeing him from his addictions.   Perry is famously known for playing Chandler Bing on the hit NBC show. Bing was sarcastic, charming, and always up for a good time, and while Perry was able to deliver on-camera, behind the scenes he lived a torturous battle of heavy addiction.   Read More: [More]
12/18/22   Life throws so many decisions at us, and with the pandemic, we’re even faced with some we’ve never made before. Do I keep my kids in school?  Is it safe to travel? Can I safely socially distance at an upcoming event? Can I plan anything more than 24 hours in advance?   All these decisions can be overwhelming and stressful, even making us feel inadequate at a time when we need calm and confidence.   But the Bible says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for [More]
12/06/22 “A lesson in kindness.” Admin For the third time that morning, I opened the refrigerator. I don’t know what I was expecting to find inside. Cheez Whiz, Kool-Aid and Jell-O pudding, like other kids had? Not in my house.   We had orange blocks of cheese and milk made from powder, all with “U.S. Government” stamped on the label, reminding us who the food really belonged to.   Not us. Nothing was yours unless you paid for it, and there was very little my family could afford.   “Rosemary, close the door,” my mother said. “You’re wasting energy.”   [More]
11/04/22   Many believers probably think they will never fall prey to deception. Yet when Jesus warns about deception, He’s talking specifically about the people of God, and especially in a context of persecution. He says, “See to it that no one deceives you. … They will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another, and many false prophets will arise and mislead many” (Matthew 24:4, 9-10).   How could deception creep into the church, [More]
10/20/22   In this interview with The New American, international TV star Kevin Sorbo discusses the societal chaos in America that was brought on her by horrendous indoctrination in public schools, efforts to destroy the traditional family, and lack of faith in life. With censorship and intolerance rampant in social and legacy media and the government becoming totalitarian, one must ultimately fight back. To prevail, people must not be sheep, but need to stand their ground, speak their minds and participate in elections.   Mr. Sorbo spoke about the projects that his studio is working on and encouraged the viewers [More]
10/19/22 Andrew Brunson’s message is straightforward, but it is far from simple: The Church needs to brace for a dark wave of persecution that is coming. Imprisoned for two years on false charges of terrorism in Turkey, the seasoned missionary says he quickly “broke,” lost any sense of God’s presence and became suicidal during his incarceration. “I began even questioning God’s existence,” Brunson said. Hardly inspiring. But sobering for those who have ears to hear. Brunson and his wife Norine – who had been missionaries in Turkey for 23 years prior to the arrest – were in Israel this month [More]
09/12/22   Evangelist Franklin Graham reacted this week to shocking survey data showing more than one-third of senior pastors purportedly believe “good people” can earn their way to heaven, with Graham lambasting some of the findings as “false teaching.”   Read More: ‘What a lie’: Franklin Graham reacts to shocking survey of Christian pastors
09/05/22   It was a distinct privilege to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ this summer in London, where my father first preached in 1954. Thousands came to hear the Word of God, and His Spirit worked to bring hun-dreds to saving faith. We praise God! While in England, I was invited to appear on the TV program “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” broadcast by the BBC to a large audience. I have been with Piers in the past when he was with another network, and he certainly can ask some penetrating questions. Among the topics we discussed was a [More]
09/05/22   “Great article about The American Heritage Girls and Trail Life USA for boys as Christian alternatives to the Boy and Girl Scouts.” Admin   Boys will be boys, and girls will be girls—sugar, spice, and puppy dog tails.   But it’s a mixed-up world today. Boyhood is now “toxic masculinity,” girls learn to be more like boys, and gender fluidity is the new normal.   The leaders of two alternative youth character development organizations—Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls (AHG)—disagree with these radical trends in gender identity. They believe there are essential differences between boys and girls [More]
08/14/22   Nearly 40 years after his death, acting legend Steve McQueen is still often referred to as the “King of Cool.” His style and movies have proved to be timeless hits in each generation, but one story about McQueen slipped through the cracks – his salvation. His rags-to-riches life story still fascinates fans, new and old. But one chapter of that story is rarely shared. Now there’s a powerful new film about his life and what finally led him to choose Christ.   Read More: The Untold Story of Steve McQueen: How the ‘King of Cool’ Met the ‘King of [More]
07/03/22   What he thought would be a coming-of-age experience for his kids proved to be a spiritual lesson for him.   The John Muir Trail is a 211-mile footpath through the high country of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. It starts in Yosemite National Park and ends atop the 14,505-foot summit of Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48 United States.   For many hikers, the JMT, as it’s called, is the adventure of a lifetime, a challenging but rewarding trek through some of America’s most iconic mountain landscapes. Completing all 211 miles usually takes about a month.   My [More]
07/03/22 “With a lot of compromise going on in certain churches this article is a reminder that we must remain true to Biblical principals and beliefs in this increasingly sinful world.” Admin In a day when, around the world, church conferences and organizations long recognized as Christian routinely are abandoning the biblical teachings on marriage and adopting same-sex procedures for their ministers and congregations, the Presbyterian Church in Ireland is standing fast.   According to a Newsletter report the church’s outgoing moderator has stated “We will not rewrite” the Bible on issues of abortion, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, transgenderism and more, whether the [More]
On Friday, June 24, 2022, the internet erupted with the news that, after forty-nine blood-stained years, the constitutional “right” to an abortion had been overturned by the Supreme Court. (By the way, this doesn’t mean abortion is banned in the US, just that each state now has the right to decide the issue.) Many people openly rejoiced and celebrated, others spewed vitriolic hate and called for violence. But there’s a large group in the middle—those who are confused by lies from the media and social media influencers about what all this really means and how they should think and feel about it. [More]
