”Lift your bra up,” the female prison guard ordered. Finally satisfied I wasn’t carrying contraband, she let me get dressed. My husband and I had come to a state penitentiary in Tennessee to visit our son, Jeffery, sentenced to seven years on drug and gun charges. I’d never felt so violated, humiliated—and resentful. I wasn’t the criminal. Jeffery had been in trouble ever since elementary school. Even a residential intensive therapy program didn’t help. By the time he was 18, he’d spiraled into a dangerous life of crime. Until he was arrested during a drug deal. When I saw Jeffery [More]
I’ve always loved the idea of angels: messengers of God who guide and protect every human life; offer forgiveness, comfort, grace and aid; and love us as God does–unconditionally. So I was thrilled when I got hired at Angels on Earth almost 10 years ago. From my first day on the job, I felt like God intended for me to work at this magazine. After being at the magazine for about a year, one evening on my subway ride home from the office I wondered silently: Do I really believe in angels? I enjoyed that readers got so much reassurance [More]
Kingdom racing is a motorsport ministry birthed out of the life changing experience George Del Canto had after salvation in Jesus Christ.
Christians in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan are under attack from their own government. When a plane flies overhead, our Sudanese brothers and sisters dive into foxholes to escape falling bombs. Hospitals and even schools are specifically targeted by the Islamic government of Sudan. Many Christians have fled their homes and are living in caves or in the mountains in hopes of finding safety. Yet even in the midst of attacks, some Christians are finding ways to reach out with Jesus’ love. VOM’s Dr. Jason Peters visited Christians in Sudan, and this week on VOM Radio he shares their inspiring [More]
A Washington Post article tells the story of a tiny Baptist church near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The congregation had dwindled to just fifteen members. With bills stacking up, Deacon Larry Montgomery told the congregation, “We’re just not going to make it.” Montgomery then told the people of Scenic Drive Baptist that there was a congregation who might want to buy the church. This congregation had been meeting in homes and had a pastor whose business card quoted John 4:35: “Look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” Montgomery approached the pastor, who then called his flock to pray about it. [More]
John Paul Jackson shares with us what makes up the Perfect Storm of events that will not only impact America but the world.
A miraculous experience restores a couple’s souls and washes away their fears. My husband was gravely ill. In desperation, his doctors prescribed bypass heart surgery, a new and untested procedure at the time. Bob and I were both frightened and needed a reprieve. A week before his surgery, we packed a picnic and on a glorious California day drove out to the Mojave Desert. Bob loved the desert air, it was so dry and easy to breathe. We traveled aimlessly on back roads lined with desert flowers, yucca and the lovely palo verde tree. And then, on an off-road track, [More]
Who held his hand after the devastating car accident? Most people who know me know I died on January 18, 1989, went to heaven, and was prayed back to earth about ninety minutes later; however, many don’t know the rest of the story—a part I didn’t know until more than a year afterward. One powerful element came out when I ate at a Chinese restaurant with Dick and Anita Onerecker. We had just come from church, where Dick served as the senior pastor. They had invited me to preach. My first encounter with Dick and Anita had been in the [More]
I fell in love with Colorado, but was it where God wanted me to be? I needed a sign. My best friend Shannon and I strapped everything I owned to the roof of my red Mazda and hit the road—I-35 North, saying goodbye to Houston for good. I’d never lived anywhere else, but in 17 hours, I’d start my new life in Boulder, Colorado. While Shannon drove, I gazed out the window, hoping to glimpse a sign from God that this was the right move. All I saw was a blur of familiar places I was leaving behind. In Houston, [More]
The boys and I were cleaning closets. Eliminating excess. Desiring to get by with less in order to embrace what’s more. But in the bedroom cabinet, beneath a box of must-keep letters, I found a precious thing, the thing that helped me remember who I am in Christ. My autograph book–from the fourth grade. The cover was faded. Corners were worn round. Entries from my friends, written in #2 lead pencils, were faint. I turned pages and remembered smooth wooden desktops and stacks of hard-bound books and the scent of spring through open windows when Louie the custodian drove a [More]
Little did they know that they were visited by an angel who bore a message from heaven. Sometimes, early in our marriage, for no reason at all, my husband would stop at a flower shop and buy me a dozen roses. “A whole dozen!” I’d say, overwhelmed and aghast. “Oh, Dave, they’re too expensive. We can’t afford this.” For a while he didn’t hear me. If he saw twelve roses, he’d buy them all. To the Italian romantic, more was better. But finally, my Scotch-Irish nature got through to him. “Oh, Dave, they’re so wonderful–but I just can’t appreciate more than [More]
Last night my small group from church met together, as we do weekly. We spend time together, catch up on each other’s lives, study the Bible and pray. I really appreciate this group and their commitment to coming together, as well as their commitment to serve. When I visited with Syrian Christians two weeks ago, I asked the group if they’d like to send something small to bless the Syrian believers living in a war zone. Two women from my group came back with over 50 button-down shirts and a selection of lotions and perfumes for the women. Over Christmas, [More]

How can a pastor continue leading a church that keeps getting attacked? How can he protect other people after he’s been assaulted multiple times? These are some of the questions that ran through my mind as 48-year-old Rev. Yakubu D’zarai recently shared his story with me at VOM’s office in Nigeria. Since 1993, Yakubu has pastored churches in Borno state – where terrorist group Boko Haram is based and Shariah (Islamic law) is rule. Two of his church buildings have been bombed. The first, home to 276 worshipers, was bombed on Dec. 18, 2012. The second, home to 278 worshipers, [More]

If you, dear reader, need a similar life transforming encounter with God you can have it, click here.”  Admin He was known as the Dark Destroyer in his boxing prime, but now Nigel Benn is concentrating on building people up, not knocking them down – though he hasn’t turned his back on the sport. Benn, an army veteran who served in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, was one of the most successful British boxers ever. He became the WBC and WBO super middleweight champion, with a record of 42 wins from 48 [More]
“So will the Church see the rise of the Anti-Christ and suffer great persecution worldwide, click here for the answer.”  Admin The Christian church in America lies quiet, paralyzed, apparently moribund in the face of a wildfire of anti-Christian cultural and political trends sweeping the nation. same-sex marriage; the Supreme Court’s decision labeling any and all opposition to the above as nothing short of bigotry; the first, unmistakable signs of persecution against those believers who do stand up in defiance often because they were entrapped by anti-Christian activists; a national freak show of the celebration of “transgenderism” and other deviant [More]
“Please remember to keep him in your prayers. And also pray that our illustrious lawmakers take some real action to get him released.” Admin An American pastor who has been imprisoned in Iran for over the past two years has again been beaten behind bars. As previously reported, Saeed Abedini, a former Iranian Muslim turned Christian, left Iran in 2005 and moved to the United States with his wife and two children to find religious freedom after facing conflict with authorities for planting house churches in the county. In 2012, he traveled back to Iran to build an orphanage and [More]
Art Thomas preaches in Lincoln, Nebraska, about the simplicity of healing ministry. After Jesus commanded His disciples to “heal the sick…” in Matthew 10:8, He added, “Freely you have received; now freely give.” The same way you receive from God apart from any effort on your own, you are also commissioned to give in His name apart from any effort of your own. This message has been called one of the most practical teachings about how to minister healing.
“Just another nail in our spiritual coffin. Judgement is on its way.”  Admin Support for same-sex marriage is at a record high, according to a Pew Research Center poll released Monday. A majority of Americans — 57% — are in favor of gay marriage. Just five years ago, only 42% of Americans supported same-sex marriage. The Pew Research Center survey, conducted via telephone interviews among 2,002 adults nationwide, found divides along racial lines in terms of support for same-sex marriage. While 59% of whites and 56% of Hispanics support gay marriage, only 51% of blacks are in favor. Pew has [More]
“The article details how you can write to imprisoned Christians overseas and be an encouragement to them.” Admn I stepped into the simple office from the dark hallway. As my eyes adjusted, I saw a man sitting against the far wall, quietly. I didn’t know it yet, but I was about to meet Mohammed Hegazy, one of the most infamous converts to Christianity in Egypt. After he converted, he insisted on legally changing his religious status from Muslim to Christianity. While his case languished in the courts, Mohammed and his family had to go into hiding after extremists began calling [More]

“As things become more difficult for Christians in this country this falling away of cultural Christians will accelerate.”  Admin The Roman historian Tacitus described Emperor Nero’s persecution of Christians: “In their very deaths they were made the subjects of sport: for they were covered with the hides of wild beasts, and torn to death by dogs, or nailed to crosses, or set fire to, and when the day waned, burned to serve for the evening lights.” In spite of what you may have read or heard, the recent Pew Research Center report “America’s Changing Religious Landscape” was better news for [More]
During my time in seminary I took a leadership course taught by the late, great Howard Hendricks. As we studied the life of David, Hendricks shared a study he conducted with a group of men in full-time ministry who had fallen into a morally disqualifying sin. At the time, I had only been a Christian for a few years, but unfortunately the subject was all too relevant. During my early days I had witnessed several men whom I loved and respected fall into serious sinful compromise. At one point in those days, the falls came so frequently I felt as [More]
Americans have a surprising openness to Christian churches, even those who are supposedly turned off to religion, a new survey finds. No matter which denomination is in the name of a church, fewer than half the nonreligious say “it’s not for me.” Their views are more favorable than unfavorable toward a wide range of faiths—Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, Assemblies of God, and non-denominational. These findings, based on a new survey of denominational opinions by LifeWay Research, may come as a surprise to those who’ve seen recent headlines. Growing numbers of people who don’t identify with any church have gathered considerable [More]
“One of our YWAM workers in the Middle East was contacted by a friend earlier this year and they met up and he was introduced to an ISIS fighter who had killed many Christians already. I mean that’s a horrible situation, and admittedly, he was probably on guard,” Gina Fadely, director of Youth With A Mission Frontier Missions, Inc. (YWAM), said during a recent appearance on The Voice of the Martyrs Radio Network. YWAM, a nonprofit missionary organization active since 1960, describes itself as “a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving [More]

“Chirs Wark, a man who cured himself of stage 3 colon cancer by natural means, created this site to tell his story on how he did it and he also provides information on others who have cured their cancer as well using natural means.”  Admin In January of 2004, one month after my surgery, my wife Micah and I went to the cancer clinic for the first time. It didn’t go so well. I had already decided against chemotherapy after reading about the raw food diet in God’s Way To Ultimate Health. To my dismay, my decision was not well [More]
